Allevia is owned and operated by me, Stefan Wilson.

My faith is in Jesus Christ for my salvation, and I’m actively involved in ministry at East Maryville Baptist Church. I have a passion for people, technology, and finding ways to make the two work together. The story that follows is my background; it is what defines me as a person and business owner.

Stefan's Story

I began supporting computers in 6th grade at Alcoa Middle School. I loved the responsibility, problem-solving skills, and the “Oh my gosh you fixed it!” reactions of my teachers. Colored Apple iMac computers The summer after my 8th grade year, the Alcoa Schools Foundation enabled the school to purchase 63 new iMac computers for all the classrooms... which I was able to help setup, install, and deploy!

I learned very quickly about virtual and physical security, networks, problem-solving, software, hardware, and the importance of always having a spare paper-clip handy. I moved on to Alcoa High School where my knowledge and expertise grew under the tutelage of some wonderful fellow students and instructors. At 14 years of age, I was the youngest A+ Certified Technician in the state of Tennessee at the time (unofficially). Upon graduation, I knew that I wanted to continue working with people and helping them implement, understand, and use technology.

During my 4-year tenure at UT, I worked for the United States Attorney’s Office – Eastern District of Tennessee. There, I learned about structure, good record keeping, and general technology maintenance in a very time-sensitive and secure environment. In May of 2008,  I graduated magna cum laude from UT’s College of Business Administration with a degree in Enterprise Management with a Dual Concentration in Information Management (it’s rather unfortunate that my diploma only says “Business Administration”). Upon graduation, I decided to start providing computer repair and consulting services to home users and small businesses under the name “SJW Tech Services” (my initials). I loved the freedom, responsibility, and flexibility of running my own small business, but my favorite part was helping people. After 18 months of running my own business, I was approached by some wonderful friends at East Tennessee Healthcare Partners (“ETHP”) to be part of the technology support for a campus network of 6 different businesses in 3 different buildings. I was 24 at the time, and it was an opportunity that I just couldn’t pass up.

So, in January of 2010, I closed my business and went to work for ETHP. It was an agonizing decision to leave my business, but I made a promise to myself: I would stick it out a whole calendar year, and if I didn’t absolutely love it, I’d go back to running my own IT business.

While there, I learned techie things like segregating networks using VLANs, VoIP systems, multiple DHCP scopes, and Active Directory/Microsoft Exchange implementations; but I also learned intangible ideas like the need for a good business culture and etiquette, and the importance of friendships and relationships. After a full year of working, I didn’t absolutely love it. So, I followed through on the promise I had made to myself. In January of 2011, I left ETHP to restart my IT services venture.
